AAC Wristbands Keeping Young Swimmers Safe

AAC is helping aquatic centres and schools this summer to keep young swimmers safe! Sometimes with such large swimming groups it can be hard to identify and separate the strong swimmers from the weaker ones. The School Sport Unit have released a ‘Water Safety Guidelines’ article to help aquatic centres and schools keep their swimmers safe. Keep reading to learn how The School Sport Unit using AAC wristbands keeping young swimmers safe.

The ‘Water Safety Guidelines’ suggest that once each child has undertaken ‘The Water Survival Challenge’ (a test to identify each child’s swimming abilities), they are given wristbands colour based on their performance in the challenge. The children are split into two groups; competent swimmers are given a blue wristband and children that need closer supervision are given yellow wristbands. All structured aquatic activities in NSW must adhere to these guidelines.

The different groups are only allowed to enter into areas they are permitted, for example yellow wristband children only allowed in shallow depths. This a great way for supervisors to identify if some children are entering or attempting to go into deeper waters they are not yet skilled enough to swim in. Tyvek wristbands are the recommended wristband for this type of use as they are waterproof, tear resistant and non-stretch. In addition, they are highly visible. As the sole manufacturer of Tyvek Wristbands in Australia, AAC supplies YMCA Australia, hundreds of aquatic centres and hundreds of schools nationwide.
