Top Tips for Designing Your Wristbands

If you have worked out that you need a customer wristband, and not a plain or pattern template, then there are many factors you must consider in the design of your wristband.  You may choose a custom wristband for a variety of reasons. You may want to brand the wristband as a promotional tool with your business name, logo and colours. Or you may want to identify visitors at a particular event, venue, party, concert, exhibition, conference or festival.  If this is the case, then you need to consider the following top tips for designing your wristbands:

Tip 1 – Primary Message

What is the specific purpose of your wristbands? What is the main message you would like the wearers to see? Are they for branding? Or a promotion? Do you want the wearers to take action? Perhaps you want to raise money and use the wristbands to promote a sponsor? Or just have them clearly identify the event?  Once you decide what your primary message on your wristband will be, then you can base all your other decisions on this.

Tip 2 – Colour

The colour of the wristband is the first thing people will notice. So if they are for your business, you may want to choose the colour that matches your main business colour. Otherwise you may have a colour for your specific event, or sponsor. Sometimes you may even needs wristbands to be different colours, to differentiate sections of an event, or levels of access.  Another point to consider is that it might be a good idea to use bright colours if you want security staff to identify people quickly, especially at night time events.  After you choose the band colour, you need to consider a complimentary text colour. When it comes to colour, less is more in terms of making the right impact, so sticking to two colours may work out best. Or if you need to go to three or four colours, make sure they all work nicely together and don’t overwhelm the wristband design.

Tip 3 – Size

The size of the width of the wristband can be quite important. Tyvek wristbands are 19mm or 25mm, Vinyl wristbands are 12mm or 25mm if they have a wide face section, Plastic wristbands are 17mm, and Silicone wristbands are 12mm wide.

If you have a lot to say, you may need a wristband with a larger design space.

Tip 4 – Font and Text

Font is an excellent way to enhance the branding of the wristband. The font can include a version of your business logo.

When it comes to the text, make sure the text isn’t too small to read. This is where you can revisit your primary message, as it’s a good idea to keep the text as simple and direct as possible.

Tip 5 – Extra Features and Security

Depending on your purpose you may want your custom wristband to have extra features, especially if security is important to you.

Sequential numbering usually comes standard on Tyvek, Plastic and Vinyl wristbands, but if you need extras like Barcoding (linking to specific event or action related URLs), QR Codes, Photo Images, Micro-text, Metallic threads on woven bands, Metallic inks or Detachable Stubs, all these extras will affect your design, as well as the type of wristband you choose.  It is usually best to use a professional designer who knows how to quickly and effectively craft a design for your wristband, but if you have to design it yourself, these tips will be an excellent guide.
