AAC Now Offers 100% Recycled Wristband Boxes

AAC Now Offers 100% Recycled Wristband Boxes

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

Queensland, November 18th, 2021:  AAC now offers 100% Recycled Wristband Boxes

AAC is excited to share that we have converted our Tyvek wristband packaging to 100% recycled materials.  Using cardboard that’s FSC certified and produced with post-consumer materials, our boxes have been redesigned with sustainability at the forefront.  While we’ve always offered packaging that’s recyclable, we can now play a significant part in closing the sustainability loop.

Sustainability is more than a buzz word here at AAC.  Over the past few years, we’ve taken considerable steps to reduce our carbon footprint and continue to make improvements every day.  In 2020, we used downtime due to Covid to perform a sustainability audit.  Below are a few projects we implemented as a result of our findings:

  • Redesigning our wristband packaging to reduce empty space.  Our packaging now uses less raw material whilst remaining integrity throughout the supply chain.  A win-win for both our business and the customer.
  • We converted to a paperless office and haven’t looked back! Not only is this good for the environment, it also has considerable cost benefits as we reduced the amount of paper we needed to purchase.
  • Identified energy deficiencies within our manufacturing machinery and processes.  Specifically, we upgraded machine parts to make operating them more energy efficient.  Coupled with improved processes, we reduced bottlenecks, streamlined our production process and reduced waste.
  • Replaced all factory and warehouse floor lighting with energy efficient LED bulbs.  This had an added effect of improving the luminosity for our employees, reducing potential safety issues and fatigue.
  • Increasing our product selection to include more eco-friendly options that help reduce plastics and other landfill waste.  We can now help our customers achieve their own sustainability goals.
  • Finally, we walk the walk by living our commitment to the environment with everyday actions such as turning off lights and air-conditioning in unoccupied rooms and make conscience decisions to reduce waste.

AAC continues to do our part in helping our planet.  For more information on our sustainability plan and more about AAC Now Offers 100% Recycled Wristband Boxes, contact Kellie Wolbers, Sales & Marketing Manager at marketing @aac.com.au. Or visit our website.

A Message From AAC’s Managing Director

A message from AAC’s Managing Director

I’m sure you’ve read many comments from business leaders on the current state of our industry and the devastation Covid has inflicted on the many businesses and employees that depend on its survival.  Like many, I have a few strong opinions on the lack of support the events industry has received from the government, the anxiety created by snap lockdowns and border closures, and the financial repercussions on local business with the end of Job Keeper in March.

As a supplier to this industry, AAC is not immune to the struggle and we work every day to stay above the waterline. My focus as a business owner is on my employees and my customers. Their welfare is paramount and their success is AAC’s success.

We are committing to faster turnaround times to help those who have planned an event, but are uncertain on whether it will go ahead. We ask that our customers keep in touch with our customer service team and we will do our best to get your product produced and delivered as fast as we can.

We will continue to invest in our state of the art digital printing equipment to provide our customers a one-stop-shop experience. Our product range now includes signage and printing capabilities to complement your event. It’s our goal to provide our customers a customised solution and an easy, no fuss purchase process.

Finally, we know the energy and hard work that goes into planning and running an event. Covid has added another layer of intensity with the increasing need for better access control & monitoring, cashless POS options and streamlined data. That’s why I’m excited to announce that AAC is launching CrowdFlo, its own proprietary event control technology solution.

CrowdFlo represents 3 years’ worth of collected data and feedback from you, our customers, to design a purpose-built and robust solution for your event to help monitor, control and maximise revenue as well as create a memorable customer experience. This has never been more important than now as we navigate through our continuously evolving environment. Watch this space, or give us a call today to learn more.

I hope you and your families keep safe, and know that we are ready and waiting to help you plan your next event.

All the Latest News on Wristbands for August 2016

Once again, AAC keeps its finger on the pulse with its roundup of all the latest news on wristbands for August 2016 – news and innovations from around the world. As always, we have a mix of interesting and unusual in this round-up, and we’ll be leading with an idea that we’re not too confident about. After all, they are always the most fun to look at!

The wristband that traces GPS directions on your skin

‘Huh?’ I hear you say. Huh indeed we reply. Somatic Labs have launched their “Moment” wristband, with the key feature being that it communicates to its wearer via touch. It vibrates and traces patterns in your skin to communicate information. It has four motors (and nothing else); no screen, no watch.

The rather odd example given is with regards GPS tracking, where instead of using your phone – which is apparently too hard – you would receive alerts through the device, which would be like having an arrow traced on your wrist saying “turn right”. As you get closer to imminent death at the next junction because you haven’t felt the initial ‘tracing’ of the arrow, the tracing becomes more intense. How this accounts for your hands and arms being in constant motion I can’t imagine, but this does not sound easier than using the GPS in a phone – especially when the GPS literally tells us when to turn.

No, we are not keen on this one! But it will be just (!) USD$159, so there is that.

Peach Music Festival Wristband theft

It’s every festival managers nightmare. The wristbands have been produced after months of designs and samples; they’re delivered and on site at the festivals in the days before the gates open. But then, they’re gone. The managers of the Peach Music Festival in Pennsylvania experienced just that, when a scene was started at a VIP registration tables the night before the event and some suspicious individuals were photographed then entering an employees only area. Cue missing wristbands. Gulp. The wristbands were then recovered following an arrest by police the following day. Phew!

Guys, lock up your wristbands when they’re on site!

Inspiring wristbands changing company culture

It has been proven time and again that writing something down greatly enhances the chances of something taking place. Talks about something and you might do it. Write something down and the chances are greater that you’ll do it. Write is down AND share it with others and the chances increase even further.

This has been nicely demonstrated by Purity Life Health Products, a 115- employee distributor of natural health products founded 32 years ago. By embracing a culture of being “Easy to do business with/path of least resistance” the company focused on providing the fastest, and best, service to its customers. The message was printed on to wristbands and given to the team. They talked about it, wrote it down and then shared the vision. Everyone became invested in the idea and profits have since risen 31%.

See, this is why we love wristbands! It was all about the wristbands. Mostly. Some of it.

Clever wristbands detecting chemicals in the air

Researchers from Oregon State University have developed simple silicone wristbands that act like sponges to absorb chemicals in the surround air or water. Key to their research was the detection of flame retardant chemicals in children’s environments, of which the wristband is capable of detecting more than 40 of them! The study of 72 preschool age children over the course of a week detecting 20 flame retardant chemicals in their environments. In small doses, this poses no great danger, but this initial study is perhaps the start of further useful research.

Brand New Patterns for Tyvek Wristbands

As an actual manufacturer of Tyvek wristbands, the only such company in Australia, here at AAC we have complete freedom to design our own wristband patterns. Following a grueling period slaving over designs, blueprints (huh!) and plans, we have launched no less than 15 new designs and colour variations for the 2015/16 summer season. This  expands upon our already market leading range of Tyvek wristband patterns. Keep reading to discover more about our brand new patterns for Tyvek wristbands.

New Tyvek Wristbands

25mm Striped Wristbands

Firstly, we decided that our range of 25mm wristbands needing fleshing out a bit, and following demand from customers for a new pattern with more than 4-5 colour variations, AAC created and manufactured 25mm striped wristbands in no less than 8 different colours!

25mm Camouflage Wristbands

With so many laser tag, paintball and adventure themed customers ordering from AAC, we decided to give them something new! Two colour variations of camouflage  wristbands have been created in 25mm, and are ready to be ordered.

19mm Happy face Wristbands

To provide some competition for our popular multicolour happy face wristbands in red, we have created a twin version in neon lime! Available in 19mm, this design has been flying off the shelves already and is making people smile.

19mm Bubbles Wristbands

Despite having more 19mm Tyvek patterns than any other company in Australia, we have expanded the range once again with the new Bubbles pattern. With four colour variations to choose from, this design will be great for aquatic centres, stadiums and other venues looking to identify  it’s patrons.

AAC Expands Promotional Products Range

AAC Latest News: AAC Expands Promotional Products Range.  AAC has launched a range of new promotional products on its website. Following growing demand from its existing customers, and an increasing number of enquiries to the company directly, AAC began taking steps in late 2014 to expand upon its range. This was undertaken via a thorough review of demand, and then meetings with factories, warehouses and other partners to ensure that all maintained the same levels of quality and consistency as demanded by AAC for its customers.

Paul Jenkins, Sales Manager, said “It’s a burgeoning market for AAC, and if we can offer a wider range of solutions to our customers, we’ll be able to further enhance our standing within the promotional products industry”.

“We have never wanted to be ‘just another supplier’ within this market” said Stuart Blott, General Manager, “the key to our success has always been offering a solution rather than just a product”.

The new range of products includes:

  • Branded apparel, including t-shirts, polo shirts and hoodies – strong partnerships have been forged with Gildan, Anvil and other brands to ensure that only the highest quality shirts and printing is provided. This new range has already been welcomed by the market, with customers ranging from festivals and events to resorts and local councils ordering t-shirts and hoodies from AAC.
  • Branded outdoor event products, including cooler bags and picnic rugs – outdoor events are booming in Australia, from music festivals and events at wineries, to movies in the park and other entertainment. Outdoor event products like these provide a relevant, targeted and (crucially) functional branding concept that can really reach a specific target market. When looking at promotional products, this is the kind of synergy that is needed between an event and a product.
  • Branded Skin Care Products including lip balms in tubes, pots and even sports ball shapes – we are a nation that spends a lot of time outdoors, in the sun and the wind. Lip balm is a popular product for men and women. Branding them in full colour to your company or event is another great way to get your message in front of a target market. Available in tubes, economy tubes, pots and sports ball shapes (tennis balls, basketballs etc), custom lip balm is growing in popularity.
  • Branded Swim Caps, including silicone and latex swim caps – it made sense that AAC, with hundreds of aquatic centres buying our Tyvek Wristbands, that we would ask our customers what other products we could assist with. All at once, they shouted “swim caps!”. And so we obliged; swim caps can be ordered in silicone or latex depending on your requirements, in a range of colours. They are easily branded with your logo, website or swim centre and therefore perfect for swim teams, or as an item of merchandise in your shop or reception area.
  • Branded socks, including trampoline socks – it’s a booming market, and trampoline centres are popping up all over Australia. As the leading supplier of wristbands and merchandise to these centres, AAC also launched trampoline socks in to the market in late 2014. The feedback has been exceptional. Trampoline socks include a non-slip rubber grip at the base and in many centres are compulsory.

As well as the inclusion of these new products, AAC has also expanded upon it’s range within existing products, now offering an even greater selection of hats and bags, with faster turnaround times than ever before. In some cases, bags are being printed and delivered within 3 days of an order taking place, though this is subject to the bag style, quantity and artwork.

Wristbands and Technology News – June 2014

AAC Latest News – Wristbands and Technology News – June 2014: There is a lot of wristband news to report on from the past few weeks, including a leading UK bank launching a wristband that allows users to spend money, the latest wristbands from E3 (the Electronics Entertainment Expo), a wristband designed to assist people with Parkinson’s and wristbands that track and rescue at-risk people with dementia or children with autism. What a broad and eclectic mix of news and events!

New Banking Wristband: Are Barclays barking mad or barking up the right tree?

Let’s start in the UK, where Barclays Bank have developed a new wristband that allows users to purchase a train ticket or coffee with a simple swipe. Whilst we have seen this type of technology in wristband form at some major music festivals, these are isolated geographic locations that are also limited in terms of length of time at the event. The same technology does exist in day to day life with pay-wave bank cards, or similar, but will this demand for fast transactions extend to wearing a wristband 24 hours a day?

Barclays intend to use silicone wristbands for this purpose, and are calling the wristband the bPay band. The idea is that the user can spend up to 20 pounds in one transaction, which does limit the potential for fraud, but what would stop someone with the right portable payment terminal scanning your wrist while you’re not looking. A wristband sitting on your desk at work is also probably also much easier to steal than a bank card safely hidden away in your wallet, but does this wristband idea have legs in the real world? How important is it for us to pay for a cup of coffee in 5 seconds instead of 30 seconds? How often will the wristband need to be replaced? Additionally, how feasible is it that someone will want to wear a wristband all day for the purpose of simply making small transactions?

Here at AAC, we’re not sure about the bPay wristband, but we’ll keep an eye on it as it develops. Let us know your thoughts too! Would you wear a wristband that allowed you to make small transactions?

E3 Wristbands: The Battle of the Bands!

There was the full range of wristband items on display at this years E3, the video game industry’s premier event. Both Microsoft/Xbox and Ubisoft, used similar wristband to the light-up versions Coldplay made famous; these proved popular with bloggers and the like enjoying the way the lights changed with the presentation and music . Whether these bands have much more of a shelf-life, we’re not sure, but for now they seem to be making people smile! Perhaps not the guys from Coldplay though, who reportedly spent far more on the wristbands than they originally intended, though this was possibly countered by the publicity garnered from the use of the bands themselves. As someone who attended a Coldplay concert in Australia that featured the wristbands, I can attest to the fact that they really did create an incredible experience.

EA went with simple Tyvek wristbands, which as we all know, is cheap and cheerful and gets the job done. One complaint people had was that this particular kind of  wristband needed to be worn for more than one day, when really it is designed to be a single day wristband. Sony went with an elasticated fabric that was transferable.

Parkinson’s Kinetigraph: A wristband assisting those with Parkinson’s

Global Kinetics, a Melbourne based company, has launched the latest version of their wristband, which is designed to collect movement data that are symptomatic of Parkinson’s. The key is that Global kinetics have developed two software algorithms that turn this raw data in to information that is useful to doctors. Doctors use the information to finely tune the levels of medication given to patients. The benefit of this is that sufferers could have more time in what is referred to as the ‘near to normal’ stage at the beginning of the symptoms, which is a fantastic improvement to the quality of life of patients. It also allows patients to be treated with less invasive oral therapies rather than the more invasive therapies used in the later stages of the disease.

These wristband items are currently used in 50 hospitals in 9 countries, with Global Kinetics now seeking to develop the product further in the US and Euro markets. They are also working on new versions of the band that will record more data from all over the body, thus providing yet more information for doctors that will assist with medication. Great work all round we say! The more technology, wristband or otherwise, that is used to assist people suffering from Parkinson’s, the better.

Project Lifesaver Wristbands: Keeping people safe

Another fantastic initiative is that of the Project Lifesaver Wristband. Project Lifesaver’s primary mission is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, autism, and other related conditions and disorders. As part of this special wristbands can be obtained that container a small transmitter that emits an individual tracking signal. Some small communities, like Upper Arlington, have invested in a number of these wristband products and provide them to residents to use as a community service. If the wearer goes missing, a trained emergency team is notified and collects the individual. The average recover time for clients is 30 minutes.

This is a fantastic initiative and again, a great example of how wristbands and other devices can be used to assist people in the community suffering with disorders.

And that’s a wrap for wristband news from June 2014 folks

Wristbands and News from around the Globe

Once again we have stopped, taken a moment, composed ourselves and compiled the latest and greatest from the world of wristbands and wearable technology. Don’t worry, there will be no mention whatsoever of the Apple Watch because that has been covered in incredible detail in approximately 42,752 other blogs, magazines and social media.  Here at AAC, we love to see what new ideas have been launched, trialed and discussed. We live in a society where there is such a drive for new ideas, and so many of these ideas are aimed to HELP people. Think of all the hours, day, years going into some of the ideas and products we present below because some of them could really make a genuine difference for a lot of people.  Keep reading for more in wristbands and news from around the globe.

Wristbands designed to reduce the risk of alcohol-fueled social dangers

The “Vive” wristbands is a concept by 6 students from the University of Washington. The concept started as a run of the mill class project but has quickly taken shape with potential real-world applications. So much so that the students recently won the “Best Product Concept” at the Microsoft Research Faculty Summit and Design Expo in 2014.

So what is the Vive concept? Basically, the concept combines wristbands, Bluetooth, transdermal sensors, GPS and WiFi. Wearers are encouraged to activate their wristband before entering a bar, nightclub or similar kind of social scene that could be described as a “high-risk, alcohol-fueled social situation”.

The wristband monitors alcohol and dehydration levels throughout the night and periodically starts to vibrate. The wearer must squeeze the wristband to stop the vibrating, which will continue until deactivated. The idea here is to ensure the wearer remains alert and under control. Now here is where the wristband gets very clever. If no response is received, other Vive wearers in the vicinity will be alerted to this by their own wristband vibrating very strongly.

This way, multiple people may be alerted to someone needing assistance and directed to that person via the wristbands use of GPS and/or WiFi triangulation. It is also envisaged that the wristband will be able to detect a wearers movement, especially if they have fallen down.  Right now, the wristband is still a concept but the team behind it are fielding numerous offers for its development. Good luck to them; because this seems like a fantastic idea for us.

Wristbands storing medical information

The idea of alerting people to your existing medical conditions is not a new one. People have been carrying around medical alert cards and identification in their wallets for years, or have worn dog tags to alert emergency staff of a unique condition they may have. In many cases, this is clearly a life-saving activity because it can influence the kind of treatment a patient receives at the scene of their accident or incident.

But how to alert people to your medical condition if you are swimming at the beach, where it is not really feasible to carry any other kind of identification? The Safe Mate wristband aims to solve this problem, and is starting with kids.

This concept is being extended to the Manly Surf Life Saving Club, with the introduction of the Safe Mate wristband. All new Nippers will be provided the option of utilizing the free wristband, which will be set up to supply crucial details about the child’s medical conditions, if any, which can be used by rescue teams if the child has an accident.

And the rest…

Virgin Atlantic

We don’t quite get this one but David Bulman, CIO of Virgin Atlantic, announced at the World Low-Cost Airlines Congress in London that Virgin would be experimenting with a new biometric wristband that would measure the heart rates of their customers. Why do you ask? Good question. The idea is apparently that each customer has a unique heart rate (really?) and that this will help Virgin service staff to recognise a customer and allow them to offer a personalised service. Are you as confused as us? I’ll go out on a limb and suggest that this won’t include cattle class.

Ryder Cup

In big event news, the Ryder Cup (23-28 September at Gleneagles, Scotland), will be utilising RFID wristbands to enhance the visitor experience. Mostly, they’ll be used for special “official partner activities” in the Ryder Cup Spectator Village. This will include the Ryder Cup Experience with Standard Life Investments, where spectators can compete in a simulated team competition with live scoreboards around the venue.

In a take on the usual “treasure hunt” concept, the Active Scotland initiative (designed to encourage and promote physical activity) will host the “Walk the Course” challenge, where spectators will be rewarded with prizes for checking in at various partners of the course.

There will also be the BMW Owners Cafe, accessible only to BMW owners, which sounds a little sad but makes you feel better about spending all that money on a BMW I suppose.

Of course, there will also be the normal social media integration, with spectators able to automatically update their social media status in certain areas.

All of this sounds great, but with 55% of spectators aged in their mid 40’s or above (see below from the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales), I am not sure how exciting all these RFID brand activation opportunities will be. Sometimes these ideas ENHANCE an event and sometimes that just DISTRACT from the event.

Free mobile health care

An often under-valued purpose of wristbands is to ‘limit’ the number of people allowed access to an area. This is used frequently at autograph signings, but recently wristbands were used to control the number of visitors to a free mobile health clinic in Exposition Park in Los Angeles. The wristbands were handed out in advance. The clinic is run by Care Harbor and is in its third year already. Great initiative and great use of wristbands!

That’s a wrap!

Thanks for reading and please do send in any other great uses of wristbands you have seen or heard about from anywhere in the world. We’ve love to hear about it and to promote any great ideas.

Splendour goes RFID

Splendor goes RFID – AAC Latest News (2013):  In July 2013, Splendour in the Grass used RFID Wristbands from AAC in an Australian first.

Never before had a large music festival in Australia chosen RFID wristbands and their accompanying systems and technology. AAC, as a long term friend and supplier of Splendour, was proud to supply our cutting edge mifare Woven RFID Wristbands and Photo Image RFID Wristbands for the event.

Splendour in the Grass is one of Australia’s biggest and most popular music festivals. Whilst others have wilted in recent years, Splendour stands strong thanks to a great location in Byron Bay, a consistently strong lineup, and a management team that strives to maintain the ‘essence’ of the festival.

RFID wristbands were used to identify multiday and single day patrons, as well as campers, VIPs, and many other ticketing categories. With a simple swipe of the wristband, patrons passed through gates seamlessly, highlighting the benefits of the RFID technology.

AAC is Australia’s leading supplier of wristbands for music festivals, and RFID wristbands.  For more articles like Splendor goes RFID – AAC Latest News, subscribe to our newsletter.
